Teaching Philosophy

The first part of my teaching philosophy is that children are capable beings. We should trust our children to know what is best for them, to know what best suits their needs. This ties into the emergent curriculum as I believe that a lesson plan is best when it is made in tandem with children. The second part of my philosophy is that our teaching should be intertwined with nature. Children should not feel disconnected from the natural world and learning happens when are able to explore the world around us in a free and inviting way. The third aspect of my teaching philosophy is that we should focus more of our time on those who need it most. I remember being in elementary school and never getting the proper support I needed to succeed, the best help I got was outside of the school board. Parents should not have to pay for tutoring services because the school system is too underfunded or underprepared to help the children who need it most, those children should be able to get the help they need in the classroom.
